Start with a trip idea

  • The Kansas City classic

The big tree, the Plaza, the Ward Parkway mansions and Brookside's light blocks. Roll through Armour Fields and Snowflake Street right next to Candy Cane Lane.

Best for: First-timers, out-of-town guests, date night

Start at Crown Center for a tree light show (Fri and Sat at 6, 7 and 8 p.m., Sun at 6).

  • Johnson County neighborhoods

Candy Cane Lane in Prairie Village, Overland Park's best cul-de-sacs and the Farmstead Lane drive-through.

Best for: Families with kids, over-the-top houses

Traffic backs up on Candy Cane Lane, so go early.

  • Lee's Summit and the big drive-through

The Magic Tree, two of Lee's Summit's best neighborhoods and the long drive-through loop at Christmas in the Park.

Best for: Cold nights, little kids, staying in the car

The line into Christmas in the Park sets your pace.

  • The Northland

Timberline Drive in Riverside, Zona Rosa's lights and the Winter Magic drive-through.

Best for: North-of-the-river groups, a shorter night

Winter Magic is ticketed per carload.

Red pins are light displays, numbered like our guide. Green pins are neighborhood light streets. We put your stops in a sensible driving order; Google Maps starts from where you are and shows live drive times. Our time estimate is a rule of thumb: about 10 minutes for a light street, 15 for a big display from the car, 20 to 30 for a quick stop, 45 for a drive-through attraction and an hour for a walk-through, plus driving between stops.

Before you go

Tips for a night of lights

  • Pick a weeknight

Sunday through Thursday nights are calmer than Fridays and Saturdays, and ceremony nights are the busiest of all.

  • Check the dates

Many 2026 dates aren't posted yet. Each place's dates, hours and price are in our guide, and we update it as organizers announce.

  • Mind the neighbors

The light streets are private homes. Keep your lights low, don't block driveways, and stay on the street.
